Sindy Lowinger has been an optometrist for over 20 years, inspired by her father, the renowned optometrist David Evian, whose passion for the field she grew up witnessing. Her areas of special interest include: - Children’s vision, particularly how vision impacts reading and learning - Low vision across all ages - Special needs - Myopia control Sindy has experience working with individuals with disabilities and special needs, and she is trained in Basic Key Word Signing to enhance communication with non-verbal patients. She earned her Optometry Degree from the UNSW School of Optometry in 2004 and has since pursued further studies through the Australian College of Optometry in Melbourne. She completed a Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics in 2015 and an Advanced Certificate in Children’s Vision in 2018. Currently, Sindy is a Supervisor at the UNSW Low Vision Clinic, working both on campus at the Optometry Clinic and at the Guide Dogs Low Vision Clinic in St Leonards, NSW. She also volunteers at vision clinics, including the Special Olympics Soar and Roar Day. As a wife to Eli and a mother of four daughters, Sindy is well-versed in managing the energy and unpredictability of children.
