My passion for dentistry began in high school when completing work experience in year 10. I chose to spend some time observing a local dentist in my hometown of Mandurah and saw the difference quality and caring dental treatment can make to a person’s life, as well as found the work exciting. I’ve always enjoyed problem-solving and am fascinated by how things work, how tools can be used, and how facts can be put together to create immediate and satisfying results. This combination of curiosity and hands-on vigour can be found in dentistry and I wouldn’t change my job for the world. Since graduating in 2014, dentistry has provided me with the opportunity to work with and help people in both a hands-on and scientific capacity. Treating patients in a gentle, creative and aesthetic manner is important to me and I believe staying up to date with modern techniques and ideas is vital for a good dentist. Over the years, I have undertaken additional training in restorative, surgical and facial aesthetics, travelling interstate and internationally for further training and education, including completing the Master Clinician in Implant Dentistry course through the gIDE Institute based in California and becoming a member of the Australasian Academy of Dento-Facial Aesthetics where I am qualified in the use of muscle relaxants and dermal fillers.

Prior to being a dentist, I have always been fascinated by the intersection of science and art. At a young age, I was drawn to both subjects and found myself constantly seeking ways to blend them together. There was no doubt in my mind that dentistry would be my career path. When I was a child, my family and I moved to Perth. I immediately fell in love with the city and its people, and knew that I wanted to make a life here. I was able to combine my passions and make meaning to science and art at the University of Western Australia. The opportunity to improve the lives of my patients through the transformative power of a beautiful smile and optimising their oral health is truly rewarding. I’m grateful for the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of my mother, who was also a dentist, and pursue my passion for this fulfilling profession. When I’m not hard at work, you can find me indulging in painting, martial arts training and spending time with my family, friends or relaxing at the beach. I’m also a soccer and motor sports enthusiast.

It wasn’t until a terrible school yard accident at the age of 12, which started me on my very own dental journey. Up until then I always saw a dentist as a person who fixed holes in peoples teeth, nothing imaginative, nothing individual and nothing holistic. However even months after my accident, I was always anxious about my smile, and I worried endlessly about whether I would lose my tooth, and how I would look on my wedding day with my front tooth missing. Then I met a wonderful dentist, which restored my smile and my confidence. I never knew how much of my confidence was linked to my smile, nor the emotional pain I felt, embarrassed that I would be toothless. It was traumatizing, to say the least, however a gift in itself, dentistry would be my chosen field and through it, I too could help others, the way that dentist helped me all those years ago. My journey to becoming the cosmetic dentist I am today has led me to travel and learn from the best in the world. I have been trained by Professor Fradeani and Angelo Putignano in Italy, Didier Dietschi and Pascal Magne in Switzerland, Christian Coachman in New York, and most recently had the opportunity to train under the father of digital cosmetic dentistry, Master Paolo Kano in Brazil. I strongly believe in holistic dentistry, facially driven aesthetics utilizing digital technology and bio-emulative dentistry. My little space in dentistry has been my dream for years; every corner of Connolly Smile Design Boutique has been personally created with love and equipped with top-of-the-range technology from around the world. Dr Yamuna is a dedicated general dentist who earned her Bachelor of Dental Science degree from the University of Western Australia in 2013. She is currently undertaking her Master's in Aesthetic Dentistry from the prestigious King’s College in London. Yamuna also has a keen interest in helping those who have dental anxiety by offering IV sedation dentistry for even routine procedures such as fillings and extractions. Her other interests include crown and bridge, minimal intervention, and non-invasive composite veneers. Outside of dentistry, Yamuna enjoys music, travelling, and spending time with her husband and little girl.
